Humanities and Social Sciences

​​​​​​​​​​The Humanities and Social Science program at Rockhampton State High School encourages students to explore the people, places, events and systems that have shaped our world. Through inquiry-based learning and hands-on experiences, students develop critical thinking skills, research and problem solving skills while gaining a deeper understanding of society, culture, history and the environment. 

In years 7 to 10, students study a wide range of subjects aligned with the Australian Curriculum, including: 
  • History
  • Geography 
  • Civics and Citizenship
  • Economics and Business
Students investigate topics from local, national and global perspectives, exploring ancient and modern societies, environmental and geographical challenges. Australia's political and legal systems and the role of business and economics in everyday life. 

Learning experiences are designed to be engaging and interactive, incorporating activities such as role play, simulations, investigations, research projects and collaborative learning. 

Assessments may include research assignments, multimodal presentations, examinations and portfolio tasks. 

Our Senior Students can continue​ their studies through a range of subjects, including: 
  • Ancient History (General) and Social and Community Studies (Applied).
These subjects build students' understanding of people, societies and communities while developing valuable skills in research, communication, analysis and informed decision making.
