At Rockhampton State High School, Health and Physical Education (HPE) provides students with opportunities to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to lead healthy, active and fulfilling lifestyles.
All Year 7 and 8 students participate in Foundation Health and Physical Education, where they explore the importance of physical, social and emotional wellbeing while engaging in a wide range of physical activities, including team sports (AFL/ Volleyball), swimming, court divide sports and striking sports. Within the Year 9 curriculum, the AFL academy is embedded. This academy focuses on improving and enhancing the skills, knowledge and capabilities of athletes, targeting AFL . Students are identified as having strong ethos and fundamentals towards AFL, during the 8 HPE curriculum unit of AFL and stereotypes in sport. AFL academy students undertake specific training and courses for fitness, coaching and umpiring in the sport of AFL.
In Year 10, Students may choose Specialists Sports Performance, an extension subject that further develops practical and theoretical knowledge of sport, fitness and performance. The subject prepares students for the academic and physical demands of senior HPE studies. Students may elect to participate in Year 10 Sport and Recreation studies.
