Home Economics is offered to students at Rockhampton High School as a compulsory subject in year 8 for one term. From Year 9 onwards Home Economics subjects become electives, which run for the entire year.
In Home Economics, students become increasingly aware of the processes of growth and development and take increasing responsibility for their personal development. They make decisions and take actions to promote healthy eating.
Junior Home Economics students are provided with opportunities to appraise or respond to a variety of:
- Techniques, processes, practices.
- They reflect on their work and that of others' in order to extend their learning.
- Student cook in practical lesson, utilizing a variety of techniques to cook different meals.
A variety of Home Economics courses are offered within the Senior School that take into consideration a variety of student needs and potential career pathways. Students can select from:
- ATAR subject "Food & Nutrition"
- Applied Subjects "Hospitality Practices"
- VET Subjects – Certificate II in Hospitality
- Early Childhood Studies
