Rockhampton State High School's agriculture program provides students with the opportunity to explore the science, business and management of modern agricultural industries. Situated in the heart of one of Australia's leading agricultural regions, our program supports students in developing the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to understand modern agricultural practices and the important role agriculture plays in feeding and sustaining communities.
Students explore a wide range of topics including:
- animal care and welfare
- livestock digestion and nutrition
- steer growth analysis
- plant structure and functions
- sustainable agricultural practices
- the journey of agricultural products from paddock to plate.
They also gain practical experience in the operations and maintenance of agricultural equipment and machinery, building valuable industry-relevant skills.
A stand-out feature of the program is the Rockhampton State High School Show Cattle Team. Where students have the opportunity to work closely with cattle, developing expertise in animal handling, preparation and presentation while representing the school at regional shows. Participation in the show team fosters leadership, teamwork, responsibility and pride while strengthening connections with the agricultural industry and wider community.
The agriculture program provides pathways to further study, training and careers in agriculture, agribusiness, animal science, environmental management, veterinary fields and related industries. Through engaging and practical learning experiences, students gain a deeper appreciation of the agriculture as a dynamic, innovative and essential industry.
